Coalfield Development works to secure grant funding and donations to support the creation and implementation of concrete initiatives and programs that exemplify a fairer economic system. This includes establishing a network of grassroots organizations that emulate certain elements of the Coalfield model.

Refresh Appalachia

Refresh Appalachia is a program of Coalfield Development focused on developing, shaping, and supporting the regenerative and sustainable agriculture sector.

This Program Has 4 Main Objectives:

  • Expand agricultural knowledge, understanding, and opportunity through paid on-the-job training experiences.
  • Strengthen and develop the agricultural sector through creative and collaborative partnerships and projects.
  • Promote and facilitate aggregation and distribution for agricultural producers.
  • Explore, experiment, and implement innovative and regenerative agriculture practices on degraded lands.

ReUse Corridor

The ReUse Corridor initiative is a multi-stakeholder effort to evaluate and improve materials management strategies and practices. As of 2022, the ReUse Corridor has successfully diverted and upcycled over 75 tons of landfill destined resources.

ACT Now Coalition

An exciting coalition of West Virginia cities, economic revitalization organizations, leading academic institutions, and private sector innovators joined at non-profit Coalfield Development Corporation’s “West Edge Factory” in Huntington, WV on Monday, February 7 to officially launch the “Appalachian Climate Technologies” Coalition or (“ACT Now Coalition”).
