Coalfield Development Chosen for Solar Energy Grant Through the Honnold Foundation

We are incredibly excited to announce that we’ve been chosen to partner with the Honnold Foundation to bring solar power to our WestEdge space! The Honnold Foundation will be funding a large-scale solar array for WestEdge while also supporting solar job training through our social enterprise Solar Holler.

By using solar energy to fully power our WestEdge space, we’re contributing to a cleaner and better planet for all of us. This is part of our triple bottom line: people, planet, and profit. We’re thrilled that this new solar array will not only serve as an educational tool for our partners and crew, but also helps demonstrate how renewable energy can be used in Appalachia.

Over 700 applicants from 90 different countries applied for grants through the Honnold Foundation, and we were one of eight organizations selected. This is truly an amazing opportunity, and we could not be more thankful to be chosen!

About the Honnold Foundation

Founded in 2012 by professional rock climber Alex Honnold, the Honnold Foundation awards grants to community scale projects rooted in solar energy. These projects must increase climate resilience, bolster social and economic equality, reduce environmental impact, and improve the lives of people everywhere. The Honnold Foundation believes that solar energy is a proven, environmentally sound solution to global energy poverty.
