Sam discovered his talent for accounting and finance early in life after joining the Future Business Leaders of America and receiving second place in its nationwide accounting test for high school students. As a certified public accountant and graduate of Marshall University’s accounting degree, Sam derives a sense of purpose and belonging from community service. He currently serves as treasurer for HOPE in the Hills and provides volunteer accounting services to Gro Huntington, both of which are nonprofits engaged in creatively developing communities and solutions to address addiction and drug abuse. Before joining the Coalfield team, Sam worked for seven years at Facing Hunger Foodbank in Huntington, WV as staff accountant and Director of Finance. Sam enjoys yoga, writing songs, playing drums, and organizing local performances with friends. He also has a siamese cat named Bloo and makes a mean pot of chili.
