Trainees will be responsible for the following:
1. Adhering to a set schedule in which they work 36 hours a week of paid OJT with 2 embedded hours of professional training and 3 hours of embedded personal development training. Specific work tasks vary by sector and work site.
2. Engaging in trainings and workshops to obtain 4-5 professional certifications (OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR/AED, Food Handlers, Customer Service, Forklift operation)
3. Engaging in professional competency certificates through two hours a week of online training.
4. Participating in 3 hours of personal development through a guided personal development journal and a financial literacy workbook during weeks 1 and 2, and 3 hours during the 3rd week of a unique 3rd Week Experience.
5. Spending up to 4 hours a week of paid time setting and achieving milestones that will move their life/career plans forward
6. Completing personal growth and well-being surveys
7. Participating in services and activities concerning education, career exploration, financial stability, employment success, and wellness
8. Accepting mentorship and coaching from Coalfield team and community partners
9. Daily checking of email, calendar, and use of Coalfield’s time tracking application
10. Adherence to all other coalfield policies and procedures
As a Revitalize Construction Trainee at Coalfield Development, a typical day might include the following:
- Attendance of Tool Box talk at the beginning of the day.
- Engagement in hands-on skills training learning how to:
- Prioritize OSHA safety standards and practices
- Safely use hand and power tools
- Read a tape measure
- Understanding of the importance and impact of green building practices in the construction industry
- Install/apply various types and materials of interior and exterior finish work in residential and commercial spaces
- Hang sheetrock/drywall process
- Painting
- Handling construction materials and job site communication
- Familiar understanding of work plans and blueprint reading
- Installation of doors and floor trim
- Framing
- Communicating with and/or working the Workforce Team and their Crew Chief via email, phone call, or in person about milestone work, training, or job readiness skills.
- A 15-minute break in the morning
- 30-minute unpaid lunch
- Attendance and engagement of 30 minutes – 1 hour of personal development journaling, reflections, and group discussion or financial literacy.
- A 15-minute break in the afternoon
- Feedback, mentorship, and coaching from crew chief on technical skills, interpersonal skills, and professional competencies (time management, leadership, initiative, etc.)
