POSITION SUMMARY AND OBJECTIVE

This internship position will provide an opportunity to gain experience in strategic communications and content creation for a non-profit organization.

This position is ideal for college students who are rising juniors or seniors in a Communications or related academic program. The Communications Intern will support the Manager of Strategic Communications in the following ways, with work being of an introductory nature gradually increasing in level of difficulty and responsibility:

  • Generate social media content collaboratively
  • Support in internal and external newsletter creation and dissemination
  • Monitor social media and newsletter impact and reach
  • Track and support the flow of inquiries/feedback reaching the organization through various communications channels (social media, website, phone, etc.)
  • Support in programmatic, partner, and project-related content creation, which may include social media, newsletter, administrative, and technical writing duties
  • Contribute to development and iterations of organizational and programmatic communication strategies, both internal and external

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • None

Work Location and Hours of Work

  • Coalfield offices are currently located in Huntington and Charleston, WV. The chosen candidate must have reliable transportation to regularly attend work at the Charleston office and other locations, as required.
  • Some travel is required for meetings and to facilitate relationships with existing and potential partners.
  • The normal work week is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Environment Conditions, Physical Activity, Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Required Experience and Education

Must be currently enrolled in a communications or marketing program at an accredited university, or recently graduated.
