
This workshop is designed to introduce families to the many benefits of backyard gardening, including financial savings, improved nutrition, and opportunities for family bonding and hands-on education. Adults will learn beginner-friendly gardening tips, watch a demonstration on constructing a raised garden bed, and leave with winter crop seeds and an instruction packet to help them start their own garden. Children will utilize recycled and donated materials to decorate their own garden boxes to use at home. The session aims to provide practical knowledge and inspire families to engage in gardening as a shared activity.
Learning Outcomes:
- Participants will identify at least three financial, nutritional, and educational benefits of backyard gardening.
- Adults will demonstrate an understanding of beginner-friendly gardening techniques and raised garden bed construction by following provided instructions.
- Children will apply creativity and sustainability concepts by decorating their own garden boxes using recycled and donated materials.
- Families will develop a personalized plan for starting their home garden using the provided winter crop seeds and instruction packet.
