Mackenzie (Kenzie) New Walker has served as Executive Director of the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum since 2018, where she leads community-based projects dedicated to uplifting the people and preserving the places of central Appalachia. She was the Project Coordinator for the Battle of Blair Mountain Centennial in 2021 and was recognized that same year as a WV Wonder Woman. Kenzie currently serves as Project Director of Courage in the Hollers: Mapping the Miners’ Struggle to Form a Union, and she oversees the Museum’s fundraising efforts to secure resources and build regional support for its ongoing work. A proud graduate of Marshall University (Go Herd!), she is Board Chair of Coalfield Development and the daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter of union coal miners.
