Trainees are engaged in Coalfields Workforce Readiness and Professional Success initiative. All Trainees work a weekly schedule which includes 33 hours of on-the-job training, and three hours of personal development. Over the six-month program, Trainees will have developed technical skills related to their work,and will have identified important personal milestones to achieve in order to remove barriers to long-term employment success. Trainees will also have gained a minimum of four professional certifications/certificates that are desirable to employers.

Trainees are evaluated monthly according to the 12 professional and 12 personal criteria. Six of the professional criteria are mandatory for continued employment with Coalfield Development.
Trainees are expected to engage in Professional development and training opportunities fully as a condition of employment.
Trainees are expected to engage in Personal Development, in the form of actively working in Coalfield’s Personal Development Journals, engaging with their Crew Chief in a Mentor/Mentee relationship, responding to well-being surveys honestly and openly, participating in Third Week Activities, and working with Coalfield’s Development team to identify and meet personal milestones.
