POSITION SUMMARY

As Education Coordinator, you will:
 
  • Work with the enterprise director to develop agriculture curriculum for the enterprise that meets regional sector needs.
  • Develop Agriculture curriculum with institutional partners.
  • Work with Crew Chiefs and Project Manager to meet training and certification needs.
  • Work with Coalfield Development Team on Personal and Professional Development to identify professional training needs and ensure alignment of professional trainings and certificates with existing Coalfield trainings
  • Assist Enterprise Director with compiling information for grant proposals.
  • Assist the Enterprise Director and development team as needed in editing and writing grants.
  • Work with local producers to ensure training needs are met.
  • Work with local Cooperative Extension and Department of Agriculture on collaborative training efforts.
  • Assist graduates of Refresh programs with resume development and job searching.
  • Work with the enterprise director to fundraise, develop grants, and promote the organization and its body of work.
  • Perform any other dues as requested by the Refresh Appalachia Director.

 

This is a flexible position, with space for shaping your day-to-day activities around your own skills and knowledge. This is a unique opportunity for those interested in contributing to the development of a local food system from the ground up. We are a dynamic company, so we need someone flexible enough to switch hats whenever needed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred.
  • Experience working in agriculture and/or local food system development, either formal or informal.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment with diverse coworkers.
  • Kind and professional demeanor and attitude. Must be patient and compassionate with people and issues encountered in challenging socio-economic environments.
  • Excellent at me management, task prioritization, and organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with computers, email, Google applications, and messaging apps.
  • Proficient with standard office equipment (phone system, copier/printer, scanners, etc.)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license issued by a state authority.
  • Prior experience wring and managing grants is a plus.

WORK LOCATION, HOURS OF WORK, AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Coalfield’s offices are currently located in Wayne, Morgantown, Huntington, and Charleston, WV. The chosen candidate must have reliable transportation to attend work at the Huntington office.

  • Primarily office environment.
  • COVID-19 Safety Protocols in place.
  • Remote work possible under director’s supervision.
  • Extensive computer operation with repeated finger moons.
  • Filing and minimal lifting (up to 25 LBS).
  • Must be able to move around the office, and set up for workshops and training sessions.
  • Must be able to work seated or standing at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of me.
  • The normal work week is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Coalfield allows managers and employees to negotiate a flexible work schedule. Compensated overtime is infrequently required when necessary to meet critical deadlines or respond to emergencies.
  • This position will require occasional weekend and evening hours, though not on a regular basis.
  • Occasionally, you may be asked to assist with other Refresh Appalachia activities, which may require walking or standing for extended periods and lifting more than 25 pounds. Inability to meet these additional requirements will have no impact on the candidate’s chances for this position.

TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS

This is mainly an office job, but occasional travel to and from Refresh sites and workshop locations will be required. Candidates must provide reliable transportation to their primary work location. Coalfield has a limited fleet of vehicles and frequently carpools to minimize travel burdens on employees. Travel expenses (excluding commutes) may be reimbursed per Coalfield’s policies and procedures.

The Education Coordinator reports to the Refresh Appalachia Director.
