POSITION SUMMARY

Are you interested in an exciting career in sustainable agriculture?

We are looking for Crew Members to work on our Wayne and Mingo County crews. This is a unique, challenging, and rewarding position for those interested in developing a career in the agriculture sector.  Crew members participate in paid on-the-job training at our training farms while at the same time working towards an Associates Degree.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Our initiative aims to transform the lives of young people in the region and those displaced by the coal mining industry. Crew members participate in a workforce development program according to our 33-6-3 model: 33 hours a week are spent doing on-the-job training on farm and food projects, along with participation in workshops and trainings; 6 hours a week are devoted to community college and business classes for an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences; and 3 hours a week are committed to personal development coaching.  As a social enterprise, Refresh Appalachia strives to blend the efficiency and production of the for-profit sector with the compassion and purpose of the charitable sector.

ABOUT THE TRAINING

Refresh Appalachia enhances the knowledge and skills of crew members through a network of training farm sites. Each site functions like a business, selling farm products to customers and the public while providing a hands-on training opportunity for the crew. Crew members will experience various types of farming and learn about sales, marketing, infrastructure and business planning for a farm enterprise. Crews are mentored by Crew Chiefs who are knowledgeable about farm business management.

ABOUT REFRESH APPALACHIA
