POSITION SUMMARY

The Professional & Academic Development Coordinator is responsible for improving the productivity of the organization’s employees. This position assesses company-wide developmental needs to drive training initiatives and identifies and arranges suitable training solutions for employees. The position advances the academic development goals of our Crew Members and Trainees. The position actively supports Crew Members and Trainees in successfully gaining employment as they transition out of Coalfield employment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Coordinator shall energetically engage the following tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Prepare annual training goals for the organization, its enterprises and programs
  • Make regular site visits to enterprise & program projects and locations so as to assess progress, inspire the team, and track compliance with Coalfield Development training plan and learning outcomes
  • Help create a supportive environment and organizational culture conducive to human growth and development
  • Share all relevant information, suggestions, and knowledge gained in the field with Coalfield Development for the purposes of making performance improvements
  • Schedule, coordinate, assign and facilitate or perform identified trainings
  • Create and/or administer pre and post-training evaluations, tests, and assessments.
  • Prepares and implements professional development budget
  • Assist the Executive Team in maintaining and improving effective relationships with Community-and-Technical College partners, Career & Technical Center programs, and other educational institutions in the region.
  • Monitor Crew Member academic participation and performance; implement individualized improvement plans as needed – connecting to resources available for students on their campuses.
  • Conduct Study Hall
  • Supports trainees and crew members in the employment search process and transitioning past the Coalfield Development opportunity.
  • Maintain the learning management system
  • Utilize the database system to store and track all data
  • Maintains knowledge of new methods and techniques for training, and training requirements applicable to the organization and/or industry.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, participating in professional organizations, attending partnership meetings and networking opportunities

  • Must be able to articulate Coalfield’s desired outcomes as they relate to internal training and professional growth

  • Must possess a working knowledge of training platforms, adult learning techniques, and training equipment

  • Must be able to communicate in group environments, problem solve situations as they occur, and facilitate trainings

  • Must be able develop training effectiveness standards, collect and analyze pre- and post training data

  • Must be able to navigate database system

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite or related software.

  • Ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None, this is a coordinating position.

WORK LOCATION AND HOURS OF WORK

Coalfield’s offices are currently located in Wayne, Morgantown, Huntington, and Charleston, WV. The chosen candidate must have reliable transportation to regularly attend work at the Huntington location and other locations, as required.

  • Office location will be in Huntington, WV
  • Car travel throughout the region will be common.
  • Access to a company owned vehicle may be required on a semi-permanent basis.
  • Occasional nationwide travel for conferences or meetings should be expected.
  • The normal work week is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Coalfield allows managers and employees to negotiate a flexible work schedule. Uncompensated overtime is infrequently required when necessary to meet critical deadlines or respond to emergencies.

ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Light lifting (up to 25 LBS with or without accommodation).
  • Must be able to drive and work seated or standing at a desk and/or computer for long periods of time.

TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must provide reliable transportation to their primary work location. Coalfield has a limited fleet of vehicles and frequently carpools to minimize travel burdens on employees. Travel expenses (excluding commutes) may be reimbursed per Coalfield’s policies and procedures.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, communication, human resources, or related field preferred
  • 2+ years of relevant experience required
  • Experience designing and implementing effective training and development programs.
