POSITION SUMMARY

The Personal Development Coordinator will be a person who enjoys social interaction and is motivated by helping others. This person will actively engage with Coalfield Development Corporation’s crew members and trainees to provide ongoing support to achieve personal, professional and academic growth and development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Examine an individual’s ideas and goals in an unbiased way and validate them. Help individuals interpret desires and create goals. Promote strategies and problem solving skills to accomplish goals. Provide assistance in overcoming barriers in meeting goals. Assist in refining goals to meet objectives of fulfillment of basic needs, successful employment, developing capacity to build wealth and realizing a lifestyle that promotes well-being.
  • Proactively models coaching, mentoring and advocacy techniques when interacting with crew chiefs and WRAPS coordinators.
  • Uses coaching, mentoring and advocacy techniques to provide emotional and social support and to drive an individual’s awareness and understanding that he or she possesses his or her own strengths and resources.
  • Mentors individuals in learning about and navigating social and community services and resources.
  • Provides jobs search and interview training. Supports trainees and crew members in the employment search process and transitioning past the Coalfield Development opportunity.
  • Conduct assessments such as questionnaires, direct interviews, and observation to form a social history of the client and determine their current situation and needs as well as to track progress and growth.
  • Manage information professionally, accurately, timely and confidentially such as: documenting interactions and behaviors and writing and filing reports and assessments using digital software, database and online file storage system; collaborating with team and partners; handle paperwork for securing services; collect and synthesize assessment and evaluation data for inclusion in Coalfield’s data tracking system; and maintain an up-to-date roster of relevant agencies.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, participating in professional organizations, attending partnership meetings and networking opportunities.
  • Enhance and contribute to the team’s efforts by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests within the personal, professional & academic development and HR tasks.

WORK LOCATION AND HOURS OF WORK

  • Ability to work remotely with internet access is important
  • Home base in the Huntington area
  • Monday – Friday 8am-5pm

ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Occasionally when visiting project sites: Low temperatures. High temperatures. Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind. Noisy environments.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds

ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must have a valid driver’s license to travel daily to various project and partner sites within the counties of Cabell, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, McDowell, Mingo, Wayne.

Candidates must provide reliable transportation to their primary work location. Coalfield has a limited fleet of vehicles and frequently carpools to minimize travel burdens on employees. Travel expenses (excluding commutes) may be reimbursed per Coalfield’s policies and procedures.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Associates degree or higher in a social services or human relations field.
  • Professional or personal experience working with individuals experiencing employment or social barriers to meeting one’s full potential, power and purpose.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Two + years experience in social service field.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • If applicable, two years of continuous sobriety.
