The Financial Accountant will prepare Coalfield’s financial reports and work with managers to ensure grant funds are handled with professional care. This is a challenging role that requires excellent analysis, problem-solving, and communication skills. In addition, your accounting skills will need to be sharp and ready for audit. You’ll work closely with our Staff Accountants, whose roles are designed to complement yours. Staff Accountants handle transactions and data entry, and this becomes the material for the Financial Accountant to prepare reports and share business insights. The Financial Accountant can advance by hitting reporting deadlines, providing valuable business insights, and bringing home a clean audit with no findings. By fulfilling this role, our CFO will be able to graduate from scorekeeper to business partner.

The Financial Accountant position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and does not supervise other employees.
Candidates must reside within the Appalachian Region to be considered. Appalachia is made up of 423 counties across 13 states and spans 206,000 square miles from southern New York to northern Mississippi.

Coalfield maintains a physical office in Huntington, WV. Candidates who desire working in a more traditional in-person office environment are welcome to apply. We decided to allow both in-person and remote workers to apply to be more inclusive.
This position can be worked remotely except that physical attendance is required for one day once every three months. Coalfield hosts special training and socialization events for its employees and requires in-person attendance at these functions at least four times per year. Coalfield will fully reimburse or pay for the cost of mandatory work-related travel.
This position must work 40 hours per week unless utilizing paid or unpaid leave in accordance with Coalfield’s policies.
The normal workweek is Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM, Eastern Standard Time. Remote attendance at certain pre-scheduled meetings or events is required during these times. The work schedule can be flexibly adjusted outside of normal working hours if pre-scheduled time commitments are not displaced.
