POSITION SUMMARY AND OBJECTIVE

Coalfield Development Delivery Driver will primarily work with a collaborative project that involves regional agricultural aggregation and distribution of local products at our Food Hub facility which include produce, value-added goods, and some frozen goods. The driver may also be asked at times to transport materials within the organization to accomplish various projects.

As a Delivery Driver, you will:

  • Efficiently deliver high-quality products to customers by the specified time, following all driver safety and food safety rules. Most routes are short-haul. Driver will not be required to make over-night deliveries.
  • Process paperwork and payment accurately, including keeping a consistent delivery log.
  • Provide professional customer service and represent Coalfield Development and Partners and missions during all customer interactions.
  • Assist in food hub operations including loading trucks, palletizing products, and pulling orders.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of aggregation and distribution equipment and areas.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the Refresh Appalachia Director and/or Conservation Director.

  • Drive and maintain a 26 foot box truck weekly.
  • Distribute deliveries to multiple customers within a specified period of time.
  • Be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to drive for extended periods of time (The shift end-time fluctuates with the employer’s daily needs)
  • Perform routine document collection and submission
  • Review invoices for accuracy before leaving the facility to ensure all products are available and meet Quality Specs.
  • Communicate with supervisors and colleagues regularly via various communication platforms
  • Ensure orders are complete and of the highest quality before leaving the facility.
  • Immediately report when a customer does not receive their entire order.
  • Maintain vehicle records including mileage logs and service dates.
  • Run regional routes and local routes.
  • Ensure routes operate efficiently to meet or exceed designated route times.
  • Responsible for upkeep of vehicles at end of delivery: refueling, and cleaning cab and box
  • Responsible for regular service and maintenance scheduling of delivery vehicles.
  • Lift and move cases (selecting product and placing on a pallet) ranging in weight up to 75 lbs continuously to and from heights ranging from floor to overhead.
  • Climb on and off the box of the truck.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position will not have supervisory requirements but may serve as a mentor to trainees at times as designated by the Food Hub Coordinator or Director.

Work Location and Hours of Work

  • 1040 Vernon Street, Huntington, WV 25704 will be the primary reporting location with variable work hours throughout the week (30 to 40 hours) with most work days being 8am to 5pm.

Environment Conditions, Physical Activity, Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, a driver may work near moving mechanical apparatus and is regularly exposed to vibration and moderate to high noise levels.
  • Some duties are performed in the warehouse and will require work to be done in varying climates. Temperatures range from zero in the coolers to 95 degrees Fahrenheit or above outdoors while on routes.

TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must provide reliable transportation to their primary work location. Coalfield has a limited fleet of vehicles and frequently carpools to minimize travel burdens on employees. Travel expenses (excluding commutes) may be reimbursed per Coalfield’s policies and procedures.

Required Experience and Education

  • Proficient with computers, email, Google applications, and messaging apps.
  • Proficient with standard office equipment (phone system, copier/printer, scanners, etc.)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license issued by a state authority.
  • Must have experience driving large vehicles.

Preferred Experience and Education

  • Forklift certified preferred but not required.
  • Experience moving agricultural products I.E. vegetables, fruits, dairy etc. is a plus.
  • Inventory management.
  • Some experience with food safety and safe food handling
  • Have or have had a CDL Class B

  • Must have a clean driving record
  • Pass a DOT physical
  • Pass a background check
