POSITION SUMMARY AND OBJECTIVE

Provide a consistent presence for Coalfield Development and the Revitalize Appalachia team in the communities where we operate. Cultivate positive professional working relationships and serve
as an accessible point of contact for residents, local stakeholders, and partner organizations – increasing the visibility of our initiatives and projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manage processes that gather external/community input, support, and involvement with decision-making that affects key Coalfield Development initiatives and projects.
  • Organize community engagement events and processes for real estate projects.
  • Support coordination of community engagement and public events that raise awareness of,
    and recruiting for, Coalfield Development job training and workforce development efforts (WRAPS, Crew Members) with local residents, Coalfield Development tenants, and community partners.
  • Design and implement unique, creative programming and event opportunities to engage local residents and partners in Coalfield Development initiatives, in collaboration with Coalfield Development staff, including the Communications Coordinator; West Edge Operations, Arts,
    and Outreach Coordinator; and Housing Site Manager.
  • Create and maintain -in collaboration with property managers- Resident Councils at Coalfield-owned multifamily housing properties, as well as real estate development
    project-specific Community Advisory Boards that meet monthly.
  • Interface with project-specific community engagement and outreach undertaken as part of initiatives by Coalfield Development and the ACT Now Coalition for the Build Back Better Regional Challenge project.
  • Main connectivity and participate in events and networking opportunities to promote
    awareness of Coalfield, in consultation with the Director and Associate Director.
  • Support external and internal communications that advance the knowledge, image, and
    mission of the organization in the community, in collaboration with Coalfield Development Communications Coordinator.
  • Facilitate increased communication and progress updates for Coalfield real estate
    development and construction projects with local stakeholders / community members.
  • Collaborate with the property management team/manager to address tenant priorities
    for Coalfield-owned multifamily housing properties.

  • Effective professional verbal and written communication skills. Should be able to adapt
    communication style to suit different audiences.

  • Attention to detail. Should be able to develop accurate written materials.

  • Action orientated. Should be able to follow up on feedback to ensure positive outcomes.

  • Proficient with computers, email, Microsoft Office, Google applications and standard office equipment (phone, copier/printer, scanners, etc.).

  • Marketing and/or media relations experience preferred.

Work Location and Hours of Work

  • This position is based in the Huntington, WV Coalfield office.
  • The chosen candidate must have reliable transportation to regularly attend work at the office and other locations, as required.
  • Frequent travel is required to Coalfield Development worksites and partnerships throughout the 21 southern WV counties.
  • The normal work week is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Environment Conditions, Physical Activity, Physical Demands

  • Extensive computer operation.
  • Moves equipment weighing up to 25 LBS (with or without accommodation)
  • Advance the organization’s creative placemaking body of work
  • Increase tenant/community engagement through organizing, planning, and implementing onsite/property community events.
  • Must be able to drive and work seated or standing at a desk and/or computer.

TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must provide reliable transportation to their primary work location and other locations as required. Travel expenses (excluding commutes) may be reimbursed per Coalfield’s policies and procedures. Coalfield has a limited fleet of vehicles and frequently carpools to minimize travel burdens on employees. A valid driver’s license and annual completion of our driver’s safety course is required in order to drive a Coalfield vehicle.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Associate degree or equivalent/relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can
    be used in lieu of education requirement.

  • Minimum three to five years of experience working in community engagement and/or public relations

  • Patience, creativity, flexibility, compassion, and sensitivity to diverse populations.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Professional experience working in community engagement for a community-based non-profit.

  • Bachelor’s Degree
