POSITION SUMMARY AND OBJECTIVE

As Carpenter Technician you will assume duties that support the completion of our Fort Gay High School construction project site in Wayne County You will work as part of a larger team that handles rehab and new construction projects in multifamily housing, commercial settings, and industrial / production spaces. You will be expected to support a wide range of tasks, be able to work with minimal supervision, and have a strong attention to detail and quality of work.

While this position works within the Revitalize Team and reports to the Fort Gay Project Crew Chief, the Carpenter Technician must also support the Construction Project Manager, Director, Chief Real Estate Officer, and Executive Team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a capacity to balance these competing demands, with minimal work supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Able to use a wide range of electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools.
  • Work from ladders and scaffolding on walls, ceilings and roofs.
  • Carry out site preparatory work with earth-moving or other heavy equipment.
  • Carry out concrete and/or block work – including foundations.
  • Carry out rough carpentry work, including framing walls, floors, and ceilings.
  • Carry out finish carpentry work, including cabinetry, finishes, and trim.
  • Carry out finishing work, including drywall, painting, and flooring

Competency - knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Proficient in reading blueprints and construction documents.
  • Understanding and experience in finish carpentry and finishes work – including drywall, flooring, casework, trim, and painting.
  • Proficient with automatic and manual hand tools.
  • Proficient with heavy equipment operation – including earth moving equipment including skid steer loaders and excavators.
  • Proficient with construction math and measurements
  • Understanding of the construction process and coordination with other trades and subcontractors
  • Familiarity with construction workflows and industry standards.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment with multiple projects, locations, and businesses.
  • Kind and professional demeanor and attitude. Must be patient and compassionate with people and issues encountered in challenging socio-economic environments.
  • Trustworthy and reliable, particularly with respect to handling confidential information.

  • Expense tracking for project costs, maintaining inventory of materials/tools to optimize workflow.
  • Management of Financial Resources – Determining how money will be spent to get the work done, and accounting for these expenditures.
  • Management of Material Resources -Obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Carpenter Technician reports to the Fort Gay Project Crew Chief, who may require assistance in responding to the needs of other members of the construction team.

Work Location and Hours of Work

  • Fort Gay High School Project – Fort Gay, WV
  • Coalfield offices are currently located in Huntington and Charleston, WV with worksites
    and partnerships throughout the 21 southern WV counties.
  • The normal work week is Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

• Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like.
• Constantly moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.

• Constantly moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
• Adjusting or moving objects up to 100 pounds in all directions.
• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

• Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
• Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

Environmental Conditions

spaces.

TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must provide reliable transportation to their primary work location and other locations as required. Travel expenses (excluding commutes) may be reimbursed per Coalfield’s policies and procedures. Coalfield has a limited fleet of vehicles and frequently carpools to minimize travel burdens on employees. A valid driver’s license and annual completion of our drivers safety course is required in order to drive a Coalfield vehicle.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two plus years of proven work experience in the field of construction/carpentry.
  • Advanced understanding of general carpentry procedures and techniques.

  • Various professional certifications related to construction/carpentry.
