Trainees will be responsible for the following:

Adhering to a set schedule in which they work 33 hours a week of paid OJT with 2 embedded hours of professional training. Specific work tasks vary by sector and work site.
Engaging in trainings and workshops to obtain 4-5 professional certifications (OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR/AED, Food Handlers, Customer Service, Forklift operation)
Engaging in professional competency certificates through two hours a week of online training.
Participating in an additional 3 hours of personal development through a guided personal development journal and a financial literacy workbook during weeks 1 and 2, and 3 hours during the 3rd week of a unique 3rd Week Experience. This is in addition to the 33 hours of paid time. Personal Development time is not paid at an hourly rate, but can be rewarded by a scholarship amount, evaluated by the level of participation.
Spending up to 4 hours a week of paid time setting and achieving milestones that will move their life/career plans forward
Completing personal growth and well-being surveys
Participating in services and activities concerning education, career exploration, financial stability, employment success, and wellness
Accepting mentorship and coaching from Coalfield team and community partners
Daily checking of email, Google Calendar, and use of Coalfield’s time tracking application
Adherence to all other coalfield policies and procedures

As an Agriculture Refresh Trainee at Coalfield Development, a typical day might include the following:

Attendance of Tool Box talk at the beginning of the day at 8AM.
Engagement in hands-on skills training learning how to:

- Seed/direct-seed crops
- Transplant crops
- Identify plants, pests, and disease
- Prevent pests and disease
- Maintain farm: daily/weekly/monthly/seasonally
- Operate and maintain irrigation systems
- Create treatment plans for: pests, diseases, fertilization
- Schedule successions
- Production plan
- Follow Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) protocol [food safety]
  - Includes: record keeping, tool maintenance, inspection schedules, sanitation and hygiene practices, and more
- Harvest, wash, pack, and store produce
- Deliver to local markets
- Help plan, budget, organize, and participate in community trainings
Communicating with and/or working the Human Development Team and their Crew Chief via email, phone call, or in person about milestone work, training, or job readiness skills.
A 15-minute break in the morning
30-minute unpaid lunch
Attendance and engagement of 30 minutes – 1 hour of personal development journaling, reflections, and group discussion or financial literacy.
A 15-minute break in the afternoon
Feedback, mentorship, and coaching from crew chief on technical skills, interpersonal skills, and professional competencies (time management, leadership, initiative, etc.)

Harvesting, washing, packing, and storing produce per GAP protocol
Operate light machinery such as weed eaters, mowers and walk-behind tillers
Operate hand held power tools such as drills and impact drivers
Use a variety of hand tools, including but not limited to knives, scissors, shovels, rakes, and basic construction tools.
Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) record keeping
Daily use of email, Google Calendar, and computer applications for tracking time.
Engagement in daily “Tool Box Talks.” These are daily, dedicated times to focus on a safety theme and the work plan for the day, along with identifying, gathering, and reviewing the use of any PPE and supplies necessary to accomplish the work plan.
Attendance of and engagement in training to obtain at least four professional certifications/certificates from the following: OSHA 10 (Construction or General), First Aid/CPR/AED, Food Handlers, Customer Service, ForkLift operations. These trainings take place during normal work hours and are 2 to 10 hours in length. As the opportunity arises, other professional certification/certificate training will be offered and are mandatory for Trainees unless notified otherwise.
Engagement in two hours a week of online professional competency courses to earn certificates, led by the Professional & Academic Development Coordinator or designee using Coalfield’s learning management platform, Precipio. Topics include computer literacy, critical thinking, workplace communication, and so on. If a trainee will be absent, the Professional & Academic Development Coordinator will need to be notified beforehand. (Additional training may be added to the mandatory training schedule based on on-going feedback from Trainee, Crew Chief, Director, Human Development Team or partners)
Attendance and Engagement in Personal Development activities (such as financial literacy sessions, team building activities, and group reflections and discussions on themes for the week) totalling three hours a week (this is in addition to the 33 hours of paid time, and is not paid at an hourly rate, but is incentivized with a monthly scholarship)
Engagement in up to 4 hours a week of work on personal milestones, and engagement with targeted services to support personal stability and growth.
Engagement in job readiness functions such as resume building, mock interviews, job search, etc.
Acceptance of and continual reflecting and participation in mentorship, coaching, and feedback from Crew Chief and others.

Occasional work at other sites.
33 hours of on-the-job training and 3 hours of personal development
Set Schedule that starts at 8:00am and typically ends by 4:00pm
Working closely with the Crew Chief, Director and other team members.

Be able to work in various weather conditions outdoors & indoors with low winter temperatures to high summer temperatures.

Moderate work that includes lifting objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance

TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS

Trainees will need to have reliable transportation to the designated work site for their Monday-Friday regular work schedule.
Required, work-related travel to other locations besides their designated work site may be arranged by Coalfield from their designated work site to the alternate site.
