Updated information about America’s Best Communities competition

The following is an update from the America’s Best Communities Summit in Durham, North Carolina that is available FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. As you are aware, Huntington is one of 15 semifinalists in the national competition and is vying to become one of eight finalists.

PRESENTATION: This afternoon, the competition unveiled the presentation order for Wednesday, April 27. The presentations will begin at 9 a.m. Huntington will be the third community to present its revitalization plan to a panel of judges. Each community will have up to 10 minutes to make its presentation, followed by a five-minute Q&A session with the judges. This means Huntington’s presentation will begin at approximately 9:25-9:30 a.m.

PRESENTER: Mayor Steve Williams will present Huntington’s revitalization plan to the judges.

LIVE STREAM: A live stream of the semifinalist presentations will be available on the home page of the America’s Best Communities website.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF FINALISTS: The announcement of the eight finalists will begin on the ABC Facebook page at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday. The announcement will only stream on the ABC Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/AmericasBestCommunities/

FINALIST INFO: Each of the eight finalists will receive a $100,000 grant prize and have 11 months to implement their revitalization plans. The top three communities that make the largest impact and show the greatest potential for achieving sustainable revitalization will be selected as the grand prize winners in 2017. The top community will receive $3 million, with second place receiving $2 million and $1 million for third.
