Deacon Stone

Meet Deacon Stone

Hometown: Burlington (South Point), Ohio

Deacon was awarded the Freshman Excellence Scholarship from Ohio University, and later earned his B.F.A. from Marshall University, and M.F.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He has taught at Detroit metro art institutions from the College for Creative Studies, to the Flint Institute of Art. Deacon has worked independently throughout the tri-state, and for management companies in Metro-Detroit Michigan. His focus is upon project management, facility operations, and administration in the not-for-profit sector. He believes the arts can bring perspective, and build bridges between otherwise unrelated individuals and groups; forming a foundation for quality communities. His desire is to help provide educational opportunities to set the spark of imagination to the tinder of real-world skill, and create a self-sustaining flame of prosperity which can burn for generations in the families of those touched by Coalfield’s work. He lives with his wife, Jessica E. Stone, a ceramicist, in Hurricane, West Virginia.

Personal Mantra/Motto: “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” — Steve Jobs

Most Interesting Place Ever Visited: Cape Flattery, on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State; among the only protected temperate rain forests in the Northern Hemisphere, and where I proposed to my wife… (She said yes! That was 10+ years and two kids ago, and we’re still going strong!)
